2 die in predawn GA 400 2-car head-on accident

Two people died following a predawn wreck on Ga. 400 in Buckhead that police said involved a wrong-way driver, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution is reporting.

According to the AJC story, the wreck happened about 4:15 a.m. on Ga. 400 northbound just before the Atlanta Financial Center tunnel.

Cobb County resident Frampere Ingle, 24, died at Grady Memorial Hospital following the crash, according to Mark Gilbeau, an investigator with the Medical Examiner's office.  The male driver of the northbound vehicle, who died at the scene of the crash, was identified Wednesday night as 44-year-old Eric Hanks of Atlanta..

A passenger in Ingle's vehicle was severely injured, and hospitalized in critical condition, according to Atlanta police spokeswoman KimJones. She said neither Ingle nor her passenger were wearing seatbelts. "It appears alcohol may have been a factor in this accident," Jones reported to the AJC.

Jones said the preliminary investigation indicated that Ingle entered Ga. 400 at Lenox Road, going southbound in the northbound lanes. "The wrong-way driver collided head-on with another vehicle that was traveling north on Ga. 400," Jones said.

The crash shut down all northbound lanes of Ga. 400 for more than three hours. Authorities blocked access to Ga. 400 at I-85 until the wreckage was cleared around 7:30.
